Veyil is a 2006 Tamil film directed by Vasantha Balan. Bharath and Pasupathy are the heroes where Bhavana, Priyanka and Shreya Reddy plays the female leads.The story is told through the protagonist Murugesan (Pasupathy) who recalls his childhood in Virudhunagar town. His father is a butcher who works hard to bring up his four children - two boys and two girls, and has a happy family.
Murugesan dotes on his younger brother Kathir and his weakness, like any other adolescent is love for movies (especially MGR films) that are screened in a local theatre. But one day life changes for him when his father catches him red-handed from the theatre after he bunks school. The child is severely punished. He runs away from home taking money and jewels.
Along the way Murugesan gets sidetracked from his intended destination of Chennai by a MGR Movie poster. He's shown watching several MGR shows, buying a change of clothes and eating a hearty meal with his ill-gotten money. After spending the night at local temple, he wakes up to find his money and other possessions missing. Murugesan is then taken under the wings of a theatre projectionist in a nearby town and slowly the theatre becomes his home. As an adult, he falls in love with Thangam (Priyanka), a beautiful girl who lives opposite the theatre but their love story does not have a happy ending. Murugesan is crestfallen after Thankam’s death and takes to the bottle. Sometime later the theatre is demolished, the owner citing loss of business.
He decides to return home after 20 years. The rest of the film is all about Murugesan’s mental turmoil, as he is caught between the deep love showered by his younger brother Kathir (Bharath) who runs a successful advertising agency and his guilt of not being a responsible son or elder brother. There is a parallel love story between Meenakshi (Bhavana), an innocent girl and Kathir. Then there is Pandi (Shreya Reddy) who is Murugesan's childhood sweetheart. The rest of the story is about what happens to Murugesan and Kathir.

Thiru (Naren) works as a henchman with Annachi (Thandapani). Annachi adores him and sees in him his own bravery and extraordinary fighting abilities.
One day, Thiru stumbles upon Charu (Bhavana), a local NGO, who fights injustice. A quarrel ensues between them. They soon realize that it was a meeting of heart and soon start to admire each other.
Charu works towards transforming Thiru from an emotionless henchman to a loveable, kind-hearted guy. As a result, he and some of his gang members abandon their incorrigible life of gun culture and take up sales at the roadside hoping to lead a socially respectable life.
Charu sees a changed personality in Thiru and decides to marry him, with the consent of her father. But her hopes shatters after seeing Thiru clumped away in a police van from a brothel. She gives up her plans to become Thiru's life partner. Not withstanding the failure, Charu's father commits suicide. Charu blames Thiru for ruining her life and for her father's death. Thiru goes back to Annachi.
Charu decided to wed her own relative. Meanwhile, Annachi's son falls in love with Charu and wants to marry her. Annachi deputes Thiru to bring Charu.
Thiru devices his own plans in an attempt to thwart Annachi's nefarious plans and save Charu. How Thiru saves Charu from Annachi and ultimately re-unit with her forms the remaining part of the story.
Sunil alias Naren, the Malayalam actor, making his debut in Tamil has really played from his skin. Bhavana has a nice earthly quality here, with a gravelly voice and grit to her sashay. Mishkin is marvelously complemented with an ensemble of supporting actors playing as Thiru's friends, takes their part and work it for all its worth.
The screenplay writer and director Mishkin has a long way to go to find a place among the auteur in every sense.
While Mahesh Muthusamy's camerawork has provided a visual treat, the debutant music director Sundar C Babu has rendered few good compositions, which keep resonating at least for sometime after you are out of the theater. The outstanding number of all is the gana song: Vazha Meenu... sung by Ghana Ulaganathan.
The movie is not disappointing and it gives good entertainment in return for the money and time you spend on it.
Known for soft romantic love stories, director Ezhil is now on a different track. The director is now experimenting with action and adventure.
Deepavali starring Jayam Ravi and Bhavana, directed by Ezhil and produced by directed Lingusamy, revolves around the life of a Chennai-based gangster.
Ezhil, whose earlier movies like Thullada Manamum Thullum and Poovellam Un Vaasam won him a good name, has come out with a pacy screenplay and quick narration of events in Deepavali.
A typical commercial entertainer, the film promises a lot of action with a romantic story woven in. Ravi plays Billu, the son of local bigwig Mudaliar (Vijay Kumar) who owns fishing boats and runs a call taxi service. Mudaliar's mission in life is to give refuge, and to reform all rowdies who want to turn over to a new leaf.
A major portion of the movie was shot in a huge set erected near Royapuram shore replicating Chennai slums. Also a song sequence was shot in Oman.
Lingusamy was all praise for Ezhil. “I was highly impressed with his screenplay in Thullada Manamum Thullum. I am confident that he will repeat his magic in Deepavali.”
Thanking Lingusamy for the opportunity, Ezhil said, ”The story was conceived almost a year ago. When I approached Editor Mohan, he referred me to Lingusamy. Today, Deepavali is ready and raring to go.”
Special mention should be made of Yuvan Shankar Raja, whose tunes are really catchy.
“The entire unit was friendly and it was like a picnic working in the movie,” says Ravi.
Bhavana, who is on a good run in Tamil, has enjoyed her role in Deepavali.
“Deepavali will be truly cracking,” sums up the director.
